Are there any community events or groups that are important to you and your family?
I'm currently president elect for Crew, which stands for Commercial Real Estate Women and our philanthropic arm is the Women's Fund. We raise money annually to help support causes that are important to women in Miami. It's very near and dear. I was raised by a single mom and as a woman growing up in the United States, our lives are very different than others around the world. To be able to give back and do something so that women understand that they have a chance, they have opportunity and purpose. There's so many women out there that don't see a future for themselves. Being a woman, it's important to give back and to make sure that other women have a path forward. It's something I want to teach my daughter and my nieces. We must remember that we have to support each other.

I really like women empowerment events. There's not a specific one, but just always trying to find ways to help each other out. It's become a movement to empower each other instead of bringing each other down. Also, I support the Best Buddy Foundation and St. Jude Hospital.

I would suggest people get involved in mental health nonprofits and see what's going on with their local school board, and their schools to make sure that we're providing the emotional and physical health support for our kids.

Are there any community events or groups that are important to you and your family?
Carol: I am a breast cancer survivor and involved with raising awareness and money for research. Grace Wang is my oncologist and she founded Relay for Life. I participate with the East Kendall and Pinecrest groups, and it is really my passion. I was involved in designing the new breast cancer wing for the MCI center at Baptist – helping to make it as comfortable and easy as possible for patients. All of us on that committee are breast cancer survivors. I am 11 years out and am a mentor to people who are going through it and encourage them to stay positive. It really helps to stay positive.    Also, we’re very involved with University of Miami. We go to every football and basketball game. Ed’s been a trustee at UM for 30 years and is the chair of the visiting committee for the School of Engineering.
