At Temple Beth Am, I’m involved with Baby Boomers and we just started a Havurah group with four other couples. I'm on the committee of Baby Boomers. It’s a gathering of older people and we have different events. Recently, we had an activity to learn about social media. We are planning an event for next Thursday night called Mindfulness Meditation.

Scouting in general is very dear to my heart. I went through the scouting program as a young girl and have continued it for both my kids. Until Hurricane Andrew, it had never occurred to me how much the life skills I learned come into play. I remember Mitch asking me where I learned all these things. My daughter has received the highest honor – the Gold Award and my son is in troop 69, within a year of becoming an Eagle Scout.

We usually help the Chabbad in Kendall. I think they offer great free events. They have a friendship circle where they partner kids with special needs with other kids. They do field trips together, music activities, and promote social interaction. We usually give to them and the Miami Jewish Federation as well.

I'll promote my jujitsu group, 10th planet Miami. I can't thank them enough for everything.

We are both passionate about supporting agencies that work with kids and adults with diverse abilities such as Best Buddies, Special Olympics, and other local groups.

The Calvary Church. Personally, I don't come from a Christian background. Even if you're not religious, it's a great place to go for the people and for the life lessons that they share. It's a place to connect socially with other likeminded people on their life path.

Our families have been affected by cancer. This year we joined the Dolphins Cancer Challenge and did the fun run around the stadium to raise money and awareness for cancer. For the last two years, we've been doing the Cycle for Survival, that raises money for Sloan Kettering, which is where my dad was treated. I feel like it's a great event and I'm always so heartened by people's generosity and support.

We have a foundation at the hospital. Near and dear to my heart, 365 days a year, is supporting the kids we treat. One of the things that upsets me is how we say, 'buy local, do things local', but at Christmas time - when you go to a store and they say ‘donate to St Jude's’, - we really should be donating to our local hospitals and seeing what our local hospitals can do. There are always kids in the hospital for Christmas and there's so much we can do to try and make their day better. Also, we're part of Haiti Healthy Kids. My partner has taken an amazing lead, where he goes down to Haiti and provides surgical care for the children. Now what they're doing is training the locals, so they can have boots on the ground at all times to help and take care of the kids. It's like, you don't want to just feed them fish, you want them to have a fisherman who is able to catch.

One just passed, Little River had their annual plant sale last weekend. There are other people down here like Aloha Redland that is always doing awesome programming. I imagine with the season starting up and the weather getting nice, there'll be a lot more stuff happening down here locally. Also, Castellow Hammock park is starting a toddler nature program and I think they're doing a Halloween night. They also do night walks through the hammock.
