What keeps you busy during the week?
I am an OB-GYN. I work in a private practice, called Women's Personal Physicians, at Baptist hospital. I do that five days a week and a whole bunch of nights during the month. Besides that, I try to spend as much time as I can with Martina and William. I'll run home for lunch as much as I can.

I always have a lot of different activities going at once. I am a writer and host of several TV shows. I have a new grilling book coming out called Project Fire. I have another book coming out in Italian in the summer – based on a TV show we taped in northern Italy last Fall. I am working on another book for next year – on brisket of all things! We start taping the new TV show, Project Fire, in two weeks.

I spend a few days on the farm harvesting fruit, a day in our commercial kitchen making everything for the market, and then recently, since the market was canceled, we spend the weekends at our new drive through store.

There's a couple of things. I am currently homeschooling my younger daughter. I was a Waldorf teacher for the past four years. When COVID hit, it was a good opportunity because she and I have always explored the opportunity, but never went for it. We decided we wanted to give it a shot. Also, my husband and I run and operate our business, Parenting Choice. We have a parent education and family stabilization course that we offer online. It's been up and running since 2005.

Would you tell us a little bit about yourself? I grew up in New Jersey. I went to Rutgers undergraduate, and Columbia University for dental school. Then, I completed a fellowship in St. Louis, Missouri. I've been practicing oral surgery in the same location for the past 27 years.

I am retired from Miami Fire Rescue. When I was 18, I was fascinated by fire, I was like a ‘little arsonist’. So, it wasn’t a coincidence that I ended up in the field. After I retired, I jumped into coaching cross-fit – it was around the time when cross fit first started in Miami. A lot of meal plans would come through our gym which led to an opportunity for us to create and offer our own licensed plan. Now, I am an account manager for Perfect Fuel Meals which is a meal plan for athletic lifestyles. It’s a 40-30-30, based on the Dr. Barry Sears model of 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat. When you select your meals online, you see your daily intake numbers and can set goals. Based on your mission, you can adjust your individual program. My goal is teaching people how nutrition is their medicine. Through food, we are treating the cause rather than the symptoms. People can change their lives through what and how they eat.

I’m busy 24-7! I have two syndicated columns on the Tribune News Wire. My Quick Fix column goes to over 6 million readers every week all over the United States and Canada. You can read it in the Wednesday issue of the Miami Herald. And, I am doing a lot of Facebook Live videos and 5-minute audio interviews which get aired on 880 AM the Bloomberg Biz. I just interviewed Daniel Boulud – the famous chef – who reinvented his DB bistro kitchen into Boulud Sud. You can see the interview on my Facebook page. (Linda Gassenheimer)

I'm going to be teaching now at KIPP Miami. It's not too far from the airport. So many people are like, 'oh my God, there's so many charter schools that are a lot closer', but KIPP aligns very closely to the work that I was doing in New York. It's still a brand new school, so I'm going to be one of the founding teachers this year for a new grade level. I'm excited for that.
