Miami Waterkeeper is a fabulous group. They have a bunch of programs like the 'Thousand eyes on the water program.' They are great with litigation and making sure our water is clean around Miami and Broward. I also like Pelican Harbor Seabird Station. We have sent a few birds over there and they track them and give us status updates.

I'm still contributing philanthropically or promoting in Washington DC. Now that I'm going to be calling Miami home, I would love to learn from this community.

The owner of our gym is the cofounder of the Wodapalooza. It’s a fitness festival – we draw athletes from all over the world. Over 500 people volunteer to help. I am the co-chair of the adaptive athlete’s division. It has become a full year of planning and prepping for the event. When you work with these athletes, your cup is filled with so much love and passion – pure love. When I started with them, I took for granted that I am able bodied – and able to get around every day. These athletes are really competing and it’s the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen.

I'm a big fan of public radio. I support WLRN, which is our local affiliate. I also give my support to Sarah Lawrence College. Also, there's a group that I find important called Americans for Immigrant Justice that gives legal support to mostly immigrant children. And, there's a wonderful music organization called Miami Music Project. They teach classical music to inner city kids. The program is transforming.

I think a lot about the environment. I would like to share Cleo. Caroline Lewis started the Cleo Institute to educate the public about climate change. They have free talks frequently all over Miami and they raise awareness for climate change. She was an educator here in Miami who started the Fairchild challenge - which is a multi-disciplinary science challenge in our public schools.

The Friendship Circle. They're a small, wonderful organization that caters to the special needs of Miami.

Are there any community events or groups that are important to you and your family?
I'm very active in a bunch. I'm on a number of committees for United Way and that's one organization that I strongly support. I'm on the board of trustees at Temple Judea and we spend a lot of time there. For the last decade, Ben and I have both volunteered with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Miami. I would say in general, I'm very passionate about women's and children's issues. So, I participate in a number of mentorship and professional organizations that are aimed at supporting women and children. And in particular, early childhood literacy is my big plug.

Are there any community events or groups that are important to you and your family?
We volunteered at Feeding South Florida. That's important to me. And then my friend, has an organization called the Lucy Project, helping children that are not able to get resources for dyslexia. It's a local cause. When they're doing fundraisers, I try and promote and make sure that people are aware. In an underserved neighborhood, it's very likely that the child won't be diagnosed with dyslexia and suffers academically. That sets them up on a path that is very hard to get off.

I get involved with the poetry festival every April, called O, Miami. They put on so many great events during the month of April. Another that we're about to enter, is Latino Conservation Week from July 17th to July 25th. There's a slew of amazing events focusing on getting outdoors to learn about conservation and different spaces. I'm hosting one of the events, at Amelia Earhart park on Saturday, the 24th at 10:00 AM. It's going to be myself and another beekeeper named Adrian Perez, the bearded beekeeper. It's going to be a double workshop with an introduction to beekeeping and then how to build habitats for pollinators.
