Name(s)?
Samuel, Kristina & Seraphina

Where do you live?
South Miami

How long have you lived in the area?
3 years

Where are you originally from and what brought you to town?
Samuel is from the island of Curacao and Kristina is from Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  We came down for Samuel’s work, warm weather, and to be close to family.

Please share about what you do for a livelihood or what keeps you busy during the week?
Kristina is a nurse and Samuel operates a women’s resort wear brand called AquaVita

How often do you come to the market?
Every other week more or less

Do you have a market ritual? If so, please describe.
We stop in for a sample of kettle corn, then we make our way down to get a delicious smoothie at LNB Groves.  After that we pick up some honey at Keez Beez and then we explore the fresh produce and eggs to determine whether it will save us a trip to Whole Foods.

What’s your favorite thing to buy at LNB Grovestand and why?
The rainbow smoothie for our daughter.

What have you made with ingredients bought at LNB Grovestand?
We haven’t made anything but we enjoy the fresh turmeric tonic.

What’s your favorite thing to buy at other stands at the market?
Honey

For parents: A favorite activity we enjoy with our kids?
Feeding the fish who unfortunately didn’t survive Hurricane Irma.

The best deal at the market is:
The fresh produce especially organic blueberries when available.

I wish the market had:
Live music and more seating.

Favorite market story:
My wife enjoys when I awkwardly wave to people and they don’t respond.
Most-frequented local restaurants and what dish to order: Matsuri.  The scallop hand rolls are incredible.

For special occasions, I go to:
Mandolin.  The Mediterranean food is fresh and we love the vibe especially the outdoor ambiance.   Bombay Darbar in Coconut Grove deserves a shout out too.  Owner Danny worked on a cruise ship before he seamlessly turned his hole in the wall off Grand Street into one of Miami’s top Indian restaurants.

Do you have a family recipe that you would be willing share? My wife’s incredible salad dressing.  3 tablespoons of Tahini, 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, 3 tablespoons of nutritional yeast, 3 tablespoons of Tamari (or soy sauce), 3 tablespoons of lemon juice, and 3 cloves of garlic.

What’s the area’s best-kept secret?
The Pinecrest Farmer’s Market 🙂

A worthy splurge:
A spa day at the Standard

Rainy-day activity:
Lazy day at home

The most romantic spot around:
Osteria Vecchio Piemonte

Do you have a fun fact you would like to share?:
Did you know… Curacao has the oldest active synagogue in the Western Hemisphere.

Do you own your own business or offer a service? Would you share a pitch about yourself or company with the community?
Samuel runs a women’s wholesale beachwear company he started about 8 years ago.

Is there a question that you would like to ask the LNBs?
We would LOVE to get a tour of your farm.  How can we make this dream a reality?

A+W: We are working on getting everything back together so that we can host some events soon!
