Name(s)?
Sam, Sabrina & Family

Where do you live?
Miami

How long have you lived in the area?
10+ years

Where are you originally from and what brought you to town?
Family brought us to and kept us in South Florida

Please share about what you do for a livelihood or what keeps you busy during the week?
Sabrina is an elementary school teacher and I’m an attorney practicing in the area of customs law.

How often do you come to the market?
As much as possible!

Do you have a market ritual? If so, please describe.
We enter near the front of the gardens (the kids love to check out the fish pond!) We continue along the left side and make a loop, stopping at any stand that looks good. We always finish at LNB!

What’s your favorite thing to buy at LNB Grovestand and why?
The turmeric tonic! The large jar is usually empty before we leave the parking lot! Also, the smoothies are great.

A+W: Bring back your empty jar! Did you know that if you bring back your empty when you purchase a new tonic, you get a dollar off? It’s a great way to recycle.

What have you made with ingredients bought at LNB Grovestand?
We tried the yuca the other day – it was our first time cooking it and it was delicious! We took LNB’s recommendation – we peeled, boiled and then fried the yuca in olive oil and garlic – delicious!  (See recipe below.)

The best deal at the market is:
Turmeric tonic!

For special occasions, I go to:
Mandolin! We love to order the octopus. They marinate it overnight and it is super tender and flavorful. For those looking for a good place to get a drink after a dinner at Mandolin, check out Lagniappe down the street.

A+W: We love Lagniappe! It’s like an instant vacation. It reminds us of one of our favorite bars in New Orleans – Bacchanal.  Both have an inviting, relaxed patio to enjoy great music, drinks and snacks with friends.

What’s the area’s best-kept secret?
Oleta river state park in North Miami Beach – great mountain biking, kayaking, and a nice beach

A worthy splurge:
Good wine! We love dry whites and roses this time of year, especially those from the Loire and Rhone in France. For a great wine store, check out Wolf’s Wine Shop on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables.

A+W: Wolf’s does a weekly wine tasting on Friday nights and you get to keep the glass. So many of our favorites are near there too – from the The Local, to Izakaya to Seven Dials

Do you own your own business or offer a service? Would you share a pitch about yourself or company with the community?
Our extended family has been in the billiards business in South Florida for 50 years! If anyone is thinking about getting a pool table – from ultramodern to a one-of-a-kind antique – be sure to check out billiardsbybrandt.com

Is there a question that you would like to ask the LNBs?
When do you foresee being able to host a u-pick or a visit-the-farm day?

A+W: We’re planning a visit the farm day for this winter! Will keep you posted.
