Name(s)?
Laura and Chris Lilburn

Where do you live?
Redland is where we live

How long have you lived in the area?
We have lived in South Florida for 42 years

Where are you originally from and what brought you to town?
We moved to South Miami in 1975, after attending The Ohio State University, to start a business in the Magic City of Miami.  We had a tree farm from 1979 to 1992 until Hurricane Andrew blew away our farm.  Laura has been an RN since 1974 and was the Director of a surgery center for 21 years.  I became an RN in 2003 and became a certified Orthopedic RN in 2008, while working for Baptist Hospital.  I retired from the hospital in 2015, Laura remains with her surgery center (Surgery Center of Coral Gables) as a compliance consultant. I am currently working with E3 Live, which markets and distributes organic “super food products”

Adena: My parents were also farm pioneers in the Redland. They moved there, in the late 70’s from Chicago, to follow their dream of farming. We also got wiped out in Hurricane Andrew. I was 9, living on the farm, and remember starting from scratch after everything blew away – except our house. It took us ten years to grow back.

How often do you come to the market?
We come to the market EVERY WEEK, since it first began in the parking lot of the old Gardner’s Market.

Do you have a market ritual? If so, please describe.
Our ritual is to buy organic produce from Bee Heaven and Vick Farms, sorrel/hibiscus tea from Jamaican Caribbean Things and of course LNB Groves.

What’s your favorite thing to buy at LNB Grovestand and why?
We love the bananas and jack fruit but our staple is the Turmeric Tonic.  The Tonic is a great anti-inflammatory which has helped us and many of our friends (who we now buy for on a regular basis)

What’s the area’s best-kept secret?
The PINECREST FARMERS MARKET! It is wonderful way to spend a delicious, entertaining and healthy Sunday, where you can learn “where your food actually comes from” and meet so many wonderful vendors and people.  This is what LIFE is about.

A+W: We agree! It’s also great to know “where your customers are coming from.” The direct connection with our customers is the reward for what we do.  Each week our mission is to teach people about what we grow – in turn people share with us how they integrate what we harvest in their lives.

The most romantic spot around:
For a romantic dinner/evening we favor the RED FISH GRILL in Matheson Hammock Park.  It is like being on your own private beach and the food is exquisite.

Do you own your own business or offer a service? Would you share a pitch about yourself or company with the community?
As a representative of Klamath Algae Products (the distributor of BrainOn, E3 Live and other organic products), I hope to help people keep their health thru proper nutrition and education. After all we ARE WHAT WE EAT.
